When The Birds Stopped Singing
That morning came with no chorus,
Senses abandoned,
Silence filled the lungs.
The gods have gone silent.
Have you ever seen their tears?
Ever heard their ichor strike our dust?
A city laments.
And in that silence,
from the depths of the pit,
I called on your name.
You heard my plea.
You came near when I called you,
and you said,
“Do not fear.”
And in that stillness,
the world began again.
Because you were near,
When the birds stopped singing.
